Zoo Trip

Right before school started, we woke up on Sunday morning to pleasant, beautiful weather.  Everyone as in a decent mood; it was just too nice to waste the day.  At 9am, we decided to take a trip to the zoo as one last hurrah of summer.  We selected Ft. Wayne zoo since it's small enough to see everything in a few hours, but nice enough to keep the kids' attention.  It turned out to be a great trip!  Vera was impatient on the drive there.  In her defense, we never revealed exactly where we were headed, so she was curious for the entire 2 hours there.  But the younger two slept for a large chunk of the drive, which certainly contributed to the success of the day!

We packed some lunch and ate in the parking lot when we arrived.

Zebra in the background.
They were all about beating on the drums.

The giraffe were my favorite.  We bought some lettuce to feed the giraffe, and the kids thought it was cool.  Vera was brave enough to feed the giraffe.  Vince threw his lettuce at the giraffe and ran away.

Annie could not have been any better.  She didn't fuss the entire visit.  She rode in the stroller, played with a water bottle, looked around, and was completely content.

The sea otters were really cool.
We took a little break and went for a train ride.  Annie was able to get out of the stroller and have her bottle.
The train ride certainly had Vince's attention.

I went on the carousel with the older two.  The line was nice and short, and Vera was super excited to ride.  Vince was excited at first, but once the carousel started moving, he freaked out.  He let out a shrill scream as soon as the ride started.  He cried and pleaded "I out!  I out!  I out!"  But I couldn't move around while the ride was going, and I couldn't leave Vera alone in order to sit with him somewhere else.  So, Vinners had to fight through the entire ride, and he was more than willing to get off when the ride was done.

I asked Vera what her favorite thing about the zoo was.  Her answer: the jellyfish.  I laughed to myself because we literally walked by the tank of jellyfish and made mention of them and kept walking.  She didn't stop and check them out a bit.  Oh, Vera!

Overall, it was a great day!  The kids were so good, and the weather was perfect.  I am glad we made the last minute decision to go!
